When you first get engaged you want to share it to the world! The first thing you should do is book your wedding venue and pick your wedding date. this will help you wi not only your wedding stationery but will help other wedding vendor choices as well. Ok so you know when and where now shout it out. Now let's talk Save-the-Dates!
Save-the-Dates should be sent out as early as one year before your big day and up to 6 months before your wedding. Of course if you are having a destination wedding I would choose to have them sent 1 year in advance.
What should save-the-dates include? Simple, your names, date, location and wedding website, if you have one. Destination weddings may also want to include other info such as accommodation info and travel information.
Wedding invitations are the introduction to your big day and a glimps of what's to come! Wedding invitations should be sent out 6-8 weeks prior to your wedding. Any sooner then you risk your invitations being lost in the shuffle of other tentative mailings and any later you maybe waiting for rsvp's and having to make phone calls to guests to see who will be attending. Even for destination weddings invitations should not be sent out sooner than 8 weeks. That is what save-the-dates are for ;)
What to include in your wedding invitations depends on your circumstance, location, venue and if you are having out of town guests. Here are some cards to consider adding to your invitation suite. The invite, RSVP card, RSVP envelope, reception card, directions card, accommodations card, map, brunch invitation, other invites and of course your mailer. There are other modern components you can add and read about in our past post.
In terms of design it's always nice when your whole wedding stationery coordinates with each other. So hiring a wedding invitation/stationery designer to created your save-the-dates and wedding invitations always gives your guests a cohesive look into your wedding day style. Its also time to think about your wedding colors, look and style. Is it modern? Classic? This should be reflected in the design of your stationery starting with your save-the-dates, invitations and all wedding stationery. Your guests will sure be excited to see a glimps of what's to come!
